The easy way to 'chuck it all and start all over' is to do it in steps-baby steps if you have to. If you have a family you obviously can't just throw your job away and walk away, so it takes a little planning. Go through the steps of defining your dream and finding your underlying needs and then start working towards that. Sure, you may have to give up your evening television and spend the time learning how to do something else, but it will be well worth it. Don't worry if it takes years to get profitable with your new work; as long as you are making some forward progress you're doing good. Keep the old job until you are able to make the leap of faith into being your own boss.

One thing that everyone needs in life-but most don't realize-is that our life's work has to also provide us with the opportunity to serve the world in some form. At our core, we must do good, we must help others, and we will get the most satisfaction from doing that. Ask anyone who loves their life and they will likely tell you that part of their satisfaction comes from doing something that provides a service. The service could involve our direct work but it could also be that our work allows us the time or money to be able to help others. When we consider that as part of our new life, we are guaranteeing our happiness.

It is sure that you will succeed when you get to the core of what will make you happy and work on getting there. Once you have developed your plan of progress, just keep working on it, a little bit every day. The keys are persistence and consistency. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about how you intend to go about changing your life into how you want it to be-it's your life, not theirs. Well, unless you are married, of course; then you will probably have to reach a point of compromise. But if both partners work on their dream it can make the marriage amazing; they will both be happy (and hopefully can still stay together). If that doesn't work, chuck that too; why would you want to stay with someone who only makes you miserable? It all comes down to you, your purpose in life, and how you choose to live that life. Why not make it a happy journey?

No matter how much money you may be making at your current job-even if it took eight years of college to get there-if you're not happy doing it...chuck it. Life is not about making money, it's about your inner worth and happiness, and the journey...it's about your experiences in life and your growth. Keep searching for that which brings you joy, be willing to have less money perhaps, and less gadgets, but be unwilling to compromise. Conformity to what everyone else thinks you should do is a sure path to misery. Dare to be who you really are, in all of your human mess and magnificence.
